JEMEZ MOUNTAIN CABIN
Adjacent to Cibola National Forest, New Mexico
The owners requested a quiet retreat: simple forms, 2 bedrooms. Together we designed a sheltered place in which they could quietly view the forest environment and engage it directly.
We developed an open plan for the main rooms and carefully adjusted window placements allowing direct contact with the natural world at all times. The walls at times feel as if they are non-existent. It takes no thought or planning to wander out onto the decks. The tub has a low window to enjoy the surroundings while reclining.
Placement and integration of exterior decks was done with similar sensitivity. As a result the owners enjoy immersing themselves in their surroundings and noticing the passing of the days and seasons.
